Benevolence Ministry

By Caring & Sharing we spread the Word & Love of God to others by His Grace.

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."     1 John 3:16-18

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."     James 1:27

What is Benevolence

In short it is a "Fruit" of our faith defined as generosity. In Matthew 25:40 Jesus challenges us by saying: "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

The Vision

  • The actions we take to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters show Christ's love in a powerful way.
  • We pray about the requests we receive; with and for the people in need.
  • We approach our activities with a mission attitude--meeting the needs of our congregation as well as reaching out to our community and neighbors.

Recent Accomplishments

  • We have developed an application to allow the process and communication to flow smoothly between the person in need, Calvary, other churches, and the city of Lincoln. We have also developed a "Plan of Action Form" that allows a way of encouraging growth and change, rather than fostering dependency.
  • There has been a list of community resources made available to assist the persons in need. This allows the person in need to receive adequate relief when we are unable to give help.

How You Could Serve

  • Our Benevolence Team is in need of members that are outreach-focused and have the desire to serve others.
  • There is a need to have educational opportunities on budgeting, finances, credit, checking, etc. If you are interested in teaching and developing this ministry please contact the Church Office.
  • Our team needs prayer partners who care deeply for the individuals and families we assist. You could also pray for God's wisdom for the Benevolence Team.
