Sarah's Passion For Ministry Jeff Deyo (solo worship artist) said "I regret how long it took me to understand that God didn't need me to make Him look good ... the right philosophy is not to try to impress people to God, but show them God." (Christian Music Planet, March/April 2004 issue) I strongly desire that all music at Calvary accomplish two things: That it would offer Jesus Christ the praise and glory of which He is worthy; and, that it would effectively communicate the Gospel message - tell who Jesus is and mention His death on the cross. While we do strive for quality, what matters most about the details is whether they could detract from people's abilities to see God through our music. Sarah's Background I have lived in Lincoln, Nebraska my entire life, and have played piano for nearly as long. Beginning formal music lessons at age 8, I was in every musical group possible by high school. My involvement in church music began as a member of the children's choir in kindergarten. I was blessed to accompany worship on keyboard at age 15. While attending the University of Nebraska - Lincoln as a Music Education major, I played piano and sang with the praise team at the University Lutheran Chapel. I joined my family at Calvary in 2000. My first musical involvement was as a member of the organist rotation. In spring of 2001, I gave Calvary a taste of contemporary worship during Lenten Worship services. In the fall of the same year, Calvary's Praise & Worship Team was formed with guitar, bass and piano. Soon after I was volunteering with the brass ensemble, choir, children's music and our growing praise team. After nearly three years, I joined Calvary's staff as Coordinator of Music Ministry in January 2003. I currently lead the children's music on Sunday mornings, direct a brass ensemble and praise chorus(choir), and continue to lead the praise & worship team (now with 10 members).
