Historical Timeline of Calvary Lutheran Church

Years of Blessing's Since 1928.

In 1973, ground was broken for the new facility. (Along with expansion of church facilities came expansion of voting rights: in 1974, congregational voting privileges were extended to women.) Calvary East was dedicated on July 14, 1974, with day school enrollment of 94 students k-6. Incidentally, the disposal of the 28th and Sumner property was made the following year, and the original church mortgage was burned.

The church saw many changes over the next few years, both happy and sad, in the ministry, as well as recognition of 50 years of blessings for the church. Vicar Sam Sherouse arrived at the end of June 1975 to serve the congregation, and seminary candidate Richard E. Peckman was installed a year later. Sadly, Pastor Koenig passed away February 25, 1976, and was shortly followed by Pastor Heins' death on May 17, 1977.
